Community Engagement and Child Enrichment Events  

Garden Workday: Fri, Sep 27 Parents and students meet on a weekend in early spring to help get the garden in shape for planting.


Handmade Holidays: Thu, Dec 5 After school event usually in early December for kids to make crafts for family and friends.


Los Cerritos Reads, Movie Night and Campout: Fri, Apr 3 Students are encouraged to read the same book during the month of March. A series of questions are sent home to spark dialogue in the household. At the end of the month, families are invited to watch the movie of the book we read and/or campout at Los Cerritos.


Parents and Pastries: Mon, Mar 2 The PTA provides coffee and pastries for this casual gathering in front of the auditorium before school for families to get to know each other.


Scholastic Book Fair: Oct 21 - Oct 25 Kids can browse the makeshift library in the auditorium before and after school. PTA receives 50% of profits back in Scholastic Bucks credit, which is used to provide books for our school library and classroom libraries. 


Trunk or Treat: Fri, Oct 18 Parents are invited to come and decorate the trunk of their cars and pass out candy with fellow parents on the Los Cerritos Elementary playground after school. Students and siblings are invited to dress up and “trunk or treat.”

PTA Giving Back

Reading Logs: Students track their daily reading every month and if they meet their goal, they receive a spirit stick patch.


Red Ribbon Week: Oct 28 - Nov 1 A week-long-event that is district- wide that teaches kids about the dangers of drugs. Themed days and an assembly to get kids on board and informed.


Reflections Art Program: The National PTA Reflections Program is an arts recognition and achievement program for students. Participation is free and a great way for students to explore and learn about various art forms. Workshop held after school on the lunch benches, students can work on their art piece for the Reflections program. Some art materials are provided, but students may also bring their own.


Teacher Appreciation Week: A week-long celebration of your child’s teacher(s). Room Parents coordinate small tokens of appreciation (letters, pictures, flowers, snack, etc.) on the themed day.


The green team consists of parents and students who encourage Los Cerritos to become more environmentally conscientious (involving recycling, walking school bus, etc).


Green Summit: Long Beach schools are going green. Teachers, support staff, administrators and parents who would like to assist with recycling and other sustainability efforts are invited to the Green Summit at Hughes Middle School from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 16. The school is at 3846 California Ave., Long Beach.

School district, city and local non-profit representatives will provide information on campus sustainability. Learn about the latest recycling changes and how to get started at your school with sorting and recovering food, cans, bottles, paper and more. Parents can RSVP at


NEW!!! Marker Recycling: Los Cerritos is partnering with Crayola ColorCycle to recycle all brands of plastic markers, not just Crayola  markers. That includes dry erase markers and  highlighters! ColorCycle will eliminate placing hundreds of tons of markers into landfills.

Please collect your students old markers and deposit them in our ‘Collection Station’ located in the office by the end of each month. The collection will be mailed to Crayola at the beginning of each month.


Book Swap: Every third Thursday kids can swap a book for a book at lunch time or purchase a book for 25 cents. Click here to volunteer.


Goodwill Drive: Jan 27 - Jan 31 Bring your gently used items to school to be donated to Goodwill and Los Cerritos earns money for it.


Recycling Friday: Bring your recyclables every Friday to Los Cerritos and help raise money for the school.
