ASSEMBLIES

Part of the PTA budget goes toward providing all students at Los Cerritos with the opportunity to attend fun and educational assemblies throughout the year. This year the students already attended the Corey the Dribbler assembly during Red Ribbon Week and in December Grades K-2 will be attending an environmental conservation show called The Conservation Caper, presented by The National Theatre for Children. You can read more about these two assemblies below. In addition we are working on bringing in more assemblies in the Spring, including visits by local authors, so stay tuned for more information!

Corey The Dribbler School Show - October Assembly
Schools across the country are being inspired and awed at school shows by Former Harlem Globetrotter and Youth Motivational Speaker, Corey The Dribbler, and his inspirational story!  Corey Rich is a 4-Time Guinness World Record Holder that’s been featured on The Late Show with David Letterman, ESPN First Take, Comcast Sportsnet, Fox News and is widely considered the World’s Greatest Dribbler! Along with performing his amazing talents at NBA Halftime Shows, Corey travels the country inspiring kids to R.E.A.D., a character education message.

Respect, Education, Attitude/Activity, and Don’t Bully or Do Drugs are the Four Principles Corey The Dribbler encourages students to live by. Corey teaches the value in reading and how it led him to win a spot on the Harlem Globetrotters. Youth are taught to respect their parents, teachers, classmates, and that bullying is not cool! Corey encourages kids to excel in school while bringing a positive attitude with them every day. Staying active and fit is stressed along with drug awareness.

The Conservation Caper - December Assembly
The National Theatre for Children, specializes in educational live performances and presents at thousands of schools across the country each year. Their environmental conservation show, The Conservation Caper, has been sponsored by Long Beach Utility Services. It is designed for elementary students in grades K-2 and centers on concepts around resources, conservation and waste reduction.

The Conservation Caper is a play performed by two professional actors who lead students through a hilarious superhero adventure, all while teaching about conservation and the environment. Nikki Nature is enjoying a relaxing day at the Eco-Guardians’ company picnic. The Eco-Guardians help teach people about saving, or conserving, resources. U.R. Fired, the boss, has set up a quiz against some supervillains as part of the festivities. Nikki has been pitted against Dr. Maybe, an indecisive villain bent on wasting resources like water and natural gas, as well as putting as much trash into the landfill as he can. U.R. Fired tells Nikki all about using water wisely. Determined to win the quiz, Nikki sets off. With the help of Cape Cod, Nikki learns about the ways we waste natural gas and how to be safe around it. Finally, Tech Guy teaches Nikki the importance of reducing and reusing the trash we produce.

Along with the in-school assembly, student playbooks, teacher guides, and digital games and activities are provided to expand upon the educational content of the program.
